A Sad Day

My heart is heavy.. I had to have my dear old lady put to sleep today, she had a massive stroke, it was the kindest thing to do, but my heart is broken…

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

I will miss her dearly my gentle old lady 😦

    • Hi Lorraine…

Thank you for your kind words, and for your lovely email, the place just wont be the same without the old lady singing for her dinner every night.

  1. I’m so sorry for the pain and loss you’re feeling now Sarah. I’m very happy for the sweet memories of the time you did have with your beautiful friend. Thank you for sharing her with me too! I sure enjoyed seeing her in the snow with her pals!
    Love & Hugs,
    Nancy :o)

  2. Darling,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I just called scrubby and he and I both send all our love your way. It’s very painfull to loose a pet who gave you unconditional love and companionship. I know she was very loved and will be missed dearly. Giant hug from me to you.

  3. I am so sorry for you Sarah. I just got your email, you see yesterday my daughter Kim lost her rabbit Binston. He died in her arms. It’s been a sad day for all. I know how much you will miss her. I will pass this along, I am sure Kim will want to know about this bridge.

    • Hi Deb…

Thanks for your message.. so sorry to hear about Kim’s rabbit Binston, it truely was a sad day all round for us all, catch up with you soon x

  4. I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear companion. I think having a pet put to sleep is one of the hardest things we ever have to do, but it is also the kindest, and a mark of our love. May you hold your memories dear.

    • Thanks Sian… was the hardest thing I have had to do, she had suffered a massive stroke and couldn’t stand, when I got her to the vets, she barely had a heartbeat 😦

  5. sarah, i just happened upon your site. i didn’t have the pleasure of knowing you dog, but i sure can relate. my louie & i are inseparable and i don’t know how i’m going to handle it when his time comes! it kills me that cats and dogs can’t live longer lives. i just know you and yours will meet again one day. i have to believe it. i had a cat for 10 years and i know what it’s like to lose your best friend. i feel the same way about my dog, louie. i will keep you in my thoughts. try to stay positive and celebrate all the good times you 2 had. best wishes. 😉

    • Hi Lisa…

Thanks so much for your lovely message and for popping into my blog.

Gosh it’s so hard when one of your furbabies passes away, Naimh was a lovely old lady, she came to us when she was 4 years old as a rescue, she wasn’t house trained, you literally had to lock all food away, she would open the breadbin to steal the bread, and her most favourite kitchen pastime was to empty the rubbish bin for scraps, the latter she never really got out of her old ways in the whole 8 years she was with us..

We have some lovely memories of her and although she’s no longer here, we’ll never forget her x

  6. It’s been a while since I popped by…I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a pet can be so dreadfully painful, more than ‘non-animal’ people can imagine. The devotion and friendship that our dogs give us is such a blessing, isn’t it. I hope the new year grows happier for you and that you remember her with a smile.

    • Thank you so much for the lovely comment, she will always be remembered, she had such a kind heart and nature, and we miss her terribly, you are so right about non-animal people, if only they knew..

      Sarah x
