Out Walking the Dog

Just thought I would share some pictures I snapped yesterday whilst out walking the dog over the fields 🙂

This for some reason is my fav tree, I have no idea why, I just love it and it makes me want to hug it 🙂

I snapped this rusty old hinge on a wooden fence post

Chunky managed to throw himself into the burn for a swim

And these gorgeous little flowers were growing everywhere, I later found out that they are called Cuckoo Flowers

I called this next picture Dandelion Hill, seeing as this was the only dandelion growing on the hill

Chunky again, this time with his chops tucked in 🙂 .. he had been swimming again!

More Cuckoo Flowers.. they are beautiful

More swimming…

and a few of last years skeletons

Hope you enjoyed the walk 🙂

Homemade treats for dogs and cats

Homemade treats for dogs and cats

Taken from the book “The Natural Way for Dogs and Cats” by Midi Fairgrieve – isbn 0-85207-344-5

2 tablespoons bran/bran flakes (eh wheat, oat or rye)
2 cups wholemeal flour (eg wheat, rice, rye etc)
1 heaped tablespoon brewer’s yeast (if no yeast allergy), or crushed vitamin B complex tablets
1 cup wheat germ
2 teaspoons blackstrap molasses (1 teaspoon for cats)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
30g butter (cats)
1 teaspoon fish-liver oil (cats)
water

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and add enough water to make a firm dough.   Shape the dough into small, flat biscuit shapes and bake in a moderate oven for about half a hour until dry and hard.

The biscuits will keep for at least a week if stored in a cool, dry, airtight container.   All of the above ingredients can be bought in health food stores.   (Substitute wheat bran and wheat flour for an alternative grain if you suspect an allergy to wheat).

These make a really healthy biscuit and are also a fun treat for children to make for their pets.

Birthday Cards Galore…..

I have a day off on holiday from work today, stacks of cards on order, so thought what better a way to spend a morning than sitting at my craft workstation with the sun streaming in the window, making cards 🙂

I’ve got the cat lying on the far edge of my workstation and a springer spaniel (mits) at my feet, the birds are singing good style outside and its such a lovely sound to hear.

Here are the cards that I have made today..

hibs-8.jpg

This card is themed around Hibs football club, a small picture of the club mascot, with a few layers of clear embossing powder to give it some shine…the colour green running throughout with the DCWV Cardstock and the wee guy’s name and age cut out using the cricut machine.

celtic-8.jpg

This card is for a girl., and her brother wanted to give her a card themed around Celtic Football Club, so I managed to find and emblem, gave it several layers of embossing powder and mounted the pictures on circles cut out with the cricut, she will be 8 on her birthday so I built that in too and just so that it wasn’t too much OTT with the football stuff, I incorporated some flowers to surround the number 8.. I do hope she likes it.

Next on the agenda was this girlie pink card.. I cut out a 4.5  and a 3.5 inch flower on the cricut, the smaller flower I took one petal at a time, spread with pva glue and then encrusted the petals with clear rhinestones, I did one of the petals in self adhesive pink gemstones.  Then I added some ribbon, a pink striped Heidi Swapp chipboard, a couple of flower brads and I made up a wee tag with Happy Birthday on it.

Next was this card, its for someone at work who’s 50 on her next birthday, I still have to finish putting the happy birthday and her name on the plaque at the bottom of the card.

The card was made using a lovely white and silver backing paper, then I used a light pink shimer cardstock and ran it through the cuttlebug using the floral fantasy folder, a Heidi Swapp chipboard picture frame, a heidi swapp material flower and a yellow card for the centrepiece finishing it off with some lovely American Crafts Elements lush Pink Ribbon.

Looking North ~ Our Walk with the Dogs.

Looking NorthOriginally uploaded by Towniesmallholder

Its is such a beautiful day here today, the sun is shining and its almost spring-like, a perfect day for a walk with the dogs and the kids.I took the day off work today because the kids are off school for the rest of the week and rather than waste a perfect day we got our walking boots and fleeces on, and headed off across the fields with our dogs.

I have to admit to being a bit of a tree hugger when it comes to this particular tree.. for some reason I think its beautiful and I’m drawn to it for some strange reason… to me it is absolutely stunning.   The top picture is my son standing at the base of it facing north. The rest of the pictures below are of the rest of our walk… the spaniels in true fashion managed to find a big muddy puddle to paddle in whilst our irish setter just seems to run off and do her own thing 🙂

I took a few pictures of grasses and last years dried out plants.. they look rather stunning against the beautiful blue sky.
