A Trip to the Beveridge Park

The kids and I took a trip along to the Beveridge Park this morning, its about a 15 minute car journey from our house.   We just went along for a walk, due to us all having cabin fever, after being cooped up in the house, with all the rain that poured down over the weekend.

This lovely swan was the first to greet us, as we walked up to the loch, there was a slight breeze blowing through our fingers, both my son and I noticed this, my daughter always walks around with her arms folded, she dropped her arms by her sides to feel it too  🙂 …

Tucked in behind was her baby..

This is the Island in the middle of the loch, they do boat hire here and you can row little boats around the island.   Although there was no-one rowing today

As we were walking around, my son noticed that some poor kiddies dolly was floating in the water!

The contrasting colours in the trees here are absolutely beautiful…

This wee shabby duck looked a bit worse for wear siting at the edge of the loch…

About half way round the loch we made a wee detour over to the formal gardens, which were lined with Lavender and Roses… absolutely beautiful… and there was a water feature in the centre…

The statue on top of the fountain was an animal of some sorts..looked like a wee gopher

The roses were stunning…

There was a wet area with a bridge and we stopped to take a picture of this aquatic plant, we have no idea what it is, so will need to do a big of reasearch… If you know what it is please email us 🙂

The path led us back round to the loch and this pretty little greylag goose

Some of its friends chose to wander towards the rose gardens…

Which were full of beautiful blooms and scents…

We all enjoyed our walk… it blew away a few cobwebs and left us all feeling chilled and relaxed 🙂

Pink Fudge Topped Fairy Cakes

We had visitors round last night and cakes are always a favourite with the kids, especially when theyre pink, yummy and topped with soft fudge pieces.

I love to make fairy cakes and try and come up with different toppings each time, so apologies for the overdose of fairy cakes if you follow my blog…

unable to help my self tho’ as they’re sooooo pretty 🙂

You can find the recipe for the basic fairy/cup cakes here..

Chicken Little’s Gone Broody!

Our wee Bantam “Chicken Little” has gone broody, she is quite happy sitting inside the Eglu on the nesting well…, in the last 2 days I moved her off to lift the eggs..   Today I posted a thread on the forum  www.neeps.co.uk asking what normally happens when one of your chookies goes broody on you, just to find out what I should do etc etc..

Now, as a result of this post, (and Julie’s reply 🙂 )   We have decided to buy some hatching eggs and put them under Chicken Little.   My daughter and I had a browse through ebay today and I have let her pick the breed and I’ve put a bid in for some …… now bearing in mind she is 15 and likes all things girlie… she chose these………. because they were white and fluffy!!

 Miniature White Bearded Silkie’s

I’ve ordered chick crumb, and growers pellets and i’m looking to either buy a 2nd hand coop, aquire one through freecycle (a long shot) or make a small poultry arc myself.

The kids are going to love it 🙂  not told my OH yet tho LOL – he’ll be fine about it i’m sure 🙂

Sowing Seeds, WWII Homework & 4 Cards later……

I’ve had a busy old evening!

After we had got tea out of the way, I had to give up my laptop to my son to allow him to complete his project/homework on WWII.   He was on a tight schedule because I needed it back as I had an order to make 4 cards.

Whilst he was doing that I took myself out to the greenhouse to plant some more seeds and do a bit of tidying and re-organising.

I managed to get a row of raddish seeds in the 3rd bed.

Sowed more Broad Beans, Peas, Cucumber, & Lettuce.

I still have a fair few seeds to go straight into the raised beds, Carrots & Beetroot

I have no seed potatoes, onion or shallot sets in yet, still have to buy them, i’ve been so busy and so disorganised!.   So I will have a scout around online and see what I can get.

After my planting and sowing, it was back into the house, and my son still hadnt finished his homework.. so my daughter and I stepped in to help him and speed things along a bit… 10 mind later we had finished and printed it all out 🙂

I had 4 cards to made and it was 8pm! .. spent the rest of the evening trying to concentrate making them, with 2 teenagers sitting either side of me “Watching” .. Mitz, our springer lying at my feet, and the other pest of a springer trying to steal cat truffles out of the litter tray grrr….  I eventually got them finished at 11pm…

I will be posting about those over on my card blog tomorrow sometime 🙂
